Wanneer het signaal intern wordt verspreid, bijvoorbeeld in kantoorgebouwen of sporthallen, is het in een microgolfsysteem vaak nodig om het microgolfvermogen aan te passen aan de vereisten. Hiervoor wordt een richtingskoppelaar gebruikt om een deel van het transmissievermogen in de transmissielijn te koppelen.
